Goldstar Transport has celebrated its 20th anniversary in style, taking delivery of a special Mercedes-Benz Actros truck.

The Perth-based company has grown from a single truck to an operation that includes 250 trucks and employs 450 people.

Goldstar Transport Managing Director, Sean Carren, recently took delivery of the company’s 100th Mercedes-Benz truck at a special sundowner event celebrating the company’s 20-year milestone.

The 2663 is not just any Mercedes-Benz Actros, but a 25 Driver Edition model paying tribute to 25 years of Actros in Australia.

Daimler Truck Australia Pacific President and CEO, Daniel Whitehead, congratulated Mr Carren on building such a successful business.

“Sean is passionate about looking after his customers and he extends the same attitude to the people who work for him. That spirit of support is at the centre of everything Goldstar team does,” he says.

“Sean is hungry for innovation and excited about operating the safest and most efficient trucks in the market from Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso,” he adds.

“I’d like to congratulate Sean on growing such a great business, which is a real pleasure to deal with, and wish Sean and the whole Goldstar team a very happy 20th anniversary,” Mr Whitehead concludes.

Goldstar still has all 100 Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks it has purchased since 2016, as well as 27 Freightliner Cascadias and 62 Fuso Fighter and Shogun models.

It was also the first Western Australian operator to introduce an electric truck when it rolled out a 100 per cent electric Fuso eCanter in 2022.

Mr Carren says the Mercedes-Benz trucks make sense for many reasons including their popularity.

“Mercedes-Benz make trucks that drivers what to drive, that is why we have 100 of them,” he says.

Mr Carren says the comfort and safety of the Actros trucks is also important.

“As a fleet truck there is no better for our most important asset, our people.”

Mr Carren thanked Daimler Trucks Perth for its strong support at the special dinner, before adding that Goldstar could not have achieved all the milestones throughout its 20 years without all the people who have helped them along the way.

Jan Lewsey and Vicky Young from the Dandelions charity, which is close to Mr Carren’s heart, also spoke to the crowd about its important work.

The Actros 25 Driver Edition Goldstar truck features the top-of-the-line 630hp 16-litre six-cylinder OM473 engine linked to the latest generation 12-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

It also has the optional Gigaspace cab, which is taller and provides more headroom and space for front-mounted cabinets above the windscreen. One of these cabinets includes a microwave.

On the rear wall of the cab, there are two beds including a fixed bed at the bottom and folding bunk at the top. Below the bottom bed are twin fridges that are within easy reach of the driver.

The truck comes with the Predictive Powertrain Control system, which uses topographical information, including pre-mapped three-dimensional GPS data, to enable the truck to make the best, and most economical, choice of throttle application and gear selection. This includes saving fuel by coasting for long periods.

The Actros 25 Driver Edition also features Active Drive Assist technology, which can actively help steer the truck and keep it in the centre of its lane, although the driver is still required to hold the steering wheel.
